Coady Wing, PhD

Coady Wing is Assistant Professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, Bloomington. Previously he was Assistant Professor in the Health Policy and Administration Division, UIC School of Public Health and Post-doctoral Fellow at Northwestern University. Dr. Wing’s primary research examines the way that occupational regulations shape the way that different types of workers are used to provide health services. For example, he has examined how the regulation of nurse practitioners, dental hygienists, and pharmacists affect the cost and availability of basic health services such as well care visits, teeth cleanings and fillings, and vaccinations. Dr. Wing is also part of a team of scholars conducting an evaluation of a new Medicaid Managed Care program in Illinois. In other work, Dr. Wing studies the health and economic welfare of veterans. Some of his current work in is concerned with the effects of military recruitment policies on the skills that people acquire during military service, and with the geographical variation in obesity among veterans served by the Veteran’s Health Administration. More broadly, Dr. Wing studies the methodological and substantive conditions under which quasi-experimental research designs appear to reproduce the results of randomized experiments. His research has been published in the Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, and American Journal of Public Health, among others.
