Elizabeth Tarlov, PhD, RN

Dr. Tarlov is a Research Health Scientist at CINCCH.  She received her Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration and completed a VA HSR&D post-doctoral fellowship at CINCCH (then, the Midwest Center for Health Services and Policy Research).  Dr. Tarlov is also Assistant Professor of Health Systems Science in the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Dr. Tarlov’s research centers on policy and environmental influences on health and healthcare access, utilization and quality, with the goal of advancing knowledge of population-based strategies to improve health and reduce disparities, particularly in the area of cancer prevention and control.  She leads two projects focused on attributes of the residential environment as they relate to obesity, metabolic risk, and weight management program engagement and outcomes.  Much of her work has focused on cancer care quality and access and dual use of VA and non-VA care as well as methodological and data quality issues related to the use of large administrative databases in health research.  Dr. Tarlov is site principal investigator for CAPriCORN, a PCORI Clinical Data Research Network.
